R.J. Schickler Inc., founded in 1965 by RJ Schickler, started as a landscaping business and expanded to include cellular communications.

The telecom aspect of the business dates to the late 1970's, when Schickler installed telephone booths. In the early '80's, the company began installing underground fiber optic cable and aerial phone cables. By the end of the decade, it was putting up cell towers.

While Schickler has continued its landscape division, telecom accounts for more than 80 percent of revenue.

The Rochester-based company ranked 56 in the 2006 Top 100, a program of the Rochester Business Alliance and KPMG.

Today, Schickler's son, Rich, operates R.J. Schickler, Inc.

A cross trained staff is the key to our success. 
The idea of a landscape company building cellular towers seem strange to most.  However, our deep roots in both the telecommunications industry, and the local landscaping community, drive our success in both markets.  Because our staff is cross trained, we can quickly adjust to market fluctuations and seasonal demands.  This means that R.J. Schickler, Inc. will be around to warrantee our work, and to continue to come back year after year, to implement that 5 year landscaping design!
